A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

If only I knew what words to say...

Perhaps the Chinese writing explains it all or perhaps it plays on a famous bit of wisdom from Confucius, who, by the way, is NOT called Confucius at all here, but  (Kǒng zǐ). Or maybe five months in China has not been long enough to gain sufficient cultural insight.

But all I can think is: nothing says "Improve your English" like tying yourself up with your teacher.

A rather light-hearted first posting for a blog intended to be a way for me to think through and make sense of my teacher training experiences here in China.

  1. Neither of them looks young enough to be a student - so why do the teachers need to be tied to one another? The mind boggles ...

  2. EL is a private school/business for adults, mainly, who want to improve their English. I'm assuming the woman is the student and the handsome waiguoren is the teacher.

Still not sure why they tied the student to the teacher! I will have to show this to Chinese colleagues and ask their opinion. I can't imagine how a rope would improve learning. We're supposed to lower the affective filter :) Maybe it cuts down on cellphone use in class, which was one of my initial challenges!

  3. Maybe they mean that English & Chinese are tied so closely together that teacher & student must work arm in arm...? ~kat~
